Who will I be in 2025? (A journaling exercise)

Here is a practice for shaping the person you will be in the new year:

Saint Jean d’Aulps under the blanket of a fresh snowfall, surrounded by the mountains of the French Alps.

My home in Saint-Jean-d’Aulps, France.

Open a journal. If you don’t have a journal, buy a journal— they are paramount in self-work. If you don’t want to buy a journal, ask yourself why. Write down the reasons (where?), then interrogate these reasons— do they make a good case?

Once you have your journal, write down the following questions:

  1. Who do I want to be in 2025?

  2. How does this person feel?

  3. What are their practices?

  4. What things do they do every day that contribute to who they are?

  5. What are their boundaries?

  6. How do they treat people?

  7. How do they treat themselves?

  8. Who are they spending time with?

  9. What steps did they take to get here?

  10. What steps can I take now?

Take time to sit down in a quiet place and answer these questions one by one. Really picture yourself in 2025— what they’re wearing, how they look, how they stand, the expression on their face, what they’re doing. Write down the answers one by one. What has happened? What did they do to get here? What are they doing every day to cultivate who they are? What are their daily practices? What are their boundaries? Who are they spending time with? Do you believe in this person? How can you begin being them, starting tomorrow?

I hope you enjoy. :)
